Sprint 5 (Mar 19 - onwards)
In our final Pre-Zynga sprint, Sprint 5 (March 19 onward), we began tackling polish and remaining bugs. Key goals include making the main menu screen more visually consistent, refining joystick sensitivity based on pressure input, and improving the clarity of in-game arrow indicators. Other tasks in progress include integrating dynamic ambient audio in Unity, clarifying elevation-based drop-off points, fixing bugs related to pizza clipping through geometry, and balancing audio levels in the main menu.
In this sprint we also focused on making the pigeons an avoidable enemy to give players a choice. We increased the height limit, but made it so once you go over the original height limit, the number of pigeons targeting the player increases significantly, which would make players choose between flying high but potentially get bombarded by pigeons, or fly low and risk getting hit by vehicles or colliding into ground-based obstacles. We also updated the pigeon AI to no longer chase the player when they are not holding food. The reason we didn't do this earlier was that we found the map was too large and if pigeons only chase you when you have food, if you are fast with deliveries, you might not see any pigeons because they take a long time to get to the player. This was fixed by making pigeons fly towards the player when they are too far away, so they are always within a certain range of the player.
Each member of art side had plenty of tasks for this sprint. With our 2D artist creating a finalized title screen along with a controls guide, a pause screen and a ground texture for our city. Our environment design person focused on making more varied vehicle models. Our drone designed focusing on finalizing and texturing the drone design in the wake of our customization system being abandoned due to technical issues and time restraints. Our technical artist focused on addressing feedback from previous tests, changing the skybox and pickup/delivery beacons colours, creating a drone height bar which was later iterated upon as well as fixing certain 3D models which did not appear how they were supposed to in game.
